How Do You Become an Electrical Contractor?
There are two main ways that you can become an electrical contractor. The first way is by going to school and receiving a certificate or degree in electrical engineering or electrical contracting (depending on the school that you go to). During your education, you will learn about the ins and outs of the process and you will be able to become licensed upon completing your program. You will find out how you can use things like a variable frequency drive to understand how things are working and make sure that you know what you’re getting into when you open up a circuit box or something similar that needs electrical work to be done with it.
Many of these programs also include an internship in order to complete them. You will get the hands on experience that you need to really understand what is going on and you will be in a place where you feel a lot more confident once you get out and start working on your own. This process is probably the easier of the two, but there is another option available if schooling isn’t your thing.
The other way to become an Anchorage AK electrical contractor is that you can get an apprenticeship with a local electrician or contractor. Even though the apprenticeship track takes a bit longer (2 to 4 years, depending on where you are), it will give you a lot more hands-on experience with someone who has been in the business for a long while. You may have to jump through a few more hoops to receive your licensure (including some addition examinations), if you’re not big on going back to school, then working under a master electrician may be the way that you want to go.
